I was an extra in this movie. You can actually see me at 4:44 standing to the left. This movie was such an incredible experience. I was there when they filmed the bathroom scene where she said she had to go to the colored bathroom and it was so amazing watching her work and bring such intensity. They would cut the scene and film again like most productions do and between takes she would joke around telling the director it's a wrap and she was done and they would film again. They kept that up for a few takes and finally on the last take she started dancing around. You could see Kevin Costner was trying not to laugh. He would turn around and go into his pretend office. They filmed the Nasa scenes in 2 locations. The scenes of the office with the big chalkboards was actually filmed in a high school gymnasium in Atlanta. The other parts of NASA was filmed in an old mental health hospital that has been shut down for years. It's the same place they use for Hawkins lab in Stranger Things. We worked a lot of shows at that old hospital.

@Greg Crews I worked in the inner city for 12 years as a store manager...I always treated them with respect, and was never robbed...they liked me because I treated them fairly...and they were super smart....even the drug dealers who were independent businessmen...I actually liked them for their tenascity and resilance and they told me some of their stories, it was a Hoot...they were just trying to make a living in a crewel world...not harming anyone...someone want's their product....I understand that....supply and demand...these were not the shooter criminals like in Chicago murdering people...these were nice people...

I bought this film as someone suggested I watch it. You should buy this film and watch it. Three black women who helped NASA with their figures to put a man into space. Watch the part where KK and the black woman go into a meeting. KK asks his colleague what the figure is. His colleague cannot find it. The black woman just simply comes out with it and astonishes everyone in the room with her memory. Then she is handed a piece of chalk. Goes up to the board and proves her figures are right. Well worth watching. A good story and it also shows the racism these 3 women had to put up with. I give this film 5 stars out of 5. A damn good film to watch not to be missed. PC. 20. 08. 2022.

This film had me in tears ...how evil and nasty people were back then, I know it still goes on today but not as harsh, There are good Educated black people all they want is to raise their family and be excepted in this Awful world we live in. Keep believing in your goals, have a clean and good heart be positive and do not let anyone put you down what ever their colour of their skin.

Can't watch Jim Parsons without seeing Sheldon, just like I can't watch Dean Stockwell without seeing Al. While these four women were trailblazers in their time, they said that the movie wasn't a true representation of their experience in NASA. From my own experience, the agency is unique amongst government agencies in two ways: they think of themselves as a family, and they have no problem with people who are trying to help and can prove their point. We see this time and time again in the movies. I saw it firsthand when an outsider was able to convince the agency to stop launch preparation for STS-133 and begin an investigation into why the insulating foam had cracked and fallen off the external tank during a tanking test.

@Fargo Entertaining simply put, the inability to compromise is why our nation finds itself where it is. Once upon a time, there was a common vision of what the nation should be. Now it's split into two factions: one believes that the government should control everything and provide everything, the other believes in the value of working and earning one's keep with the government's main role being preventing us from having to learn a foreign language at gunpoint. One side is using every method imaginable to destroy the house's ("A house divided against itself cannot stand") foundation while throwing all manner of buzzwords at those trying to put the fire out. One side embraces a 150 year old idea that's failed and caused millions of deaths everywhere it's been tried while insisting that the other side is destroying the planet. Thanks to this electronic Tower of Babel called the Internet, both sides can find more than enough "evidence" to justify the vilification and dehumanizing of the other. Compromise. What an archaic concept.

@spaceflight101 can't say I've seen those signs personally in real life, before my time, but still to this day I see attitudes on both sides of I'm right & your wrong, yet they seem to be saying the same thing sometimes. Just irks me that hate & indifference can't get set aside, & it's not just about color of someone's skin, about ideals and/or how to proceed with an idea or project usually. Seems the rift will not or can never heal & just keeps widening. Pains me to think another civil wars on the horizon.

@Fargo Entertaining , the way I see Hidden Figures, FWIW, is of a story in the same vein as October Sky. A group of people, with one central character, had to overcome various obstacles to accomplish their goals. I've been to Coalwood. In 1957 it was about as isolated as a small town can be. I've been to Virginia Beach in the early 1960s and seen the "whites only" signs. Obstacles. You're correct about difficulties in keeping the audience interested and engaged. You may have the best story in the world, but once the audience starts playing with their phones it's game over.

As far as Hollywood goes with accuracy, can't really give them all the blame. I've seen time & time again how sheepishly audiences can get bored, eyes glaze & become disinterested in shows & movies with all facts and little to no drama. Personally, if I'm interested in a subject-like nasa, wouldn't matter about all facts & little to no drama, for quite awhile anyway. Does come to a point where if I'm not involved in any of the actual projects, I'll get bored just listening about it.

Best movie I’ve seen in a long time! Even if some parts were stretched. Per the real life Kathryne her boss didn’t smash the bathroom sign, she just used the white folks bathroom! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. There were s few other instances but the message of breaking through that hideous barrier was still present! The ladies all did an awesome job. Loved it when Kathryne’s man started courting her. So cute!!

Bet you weren't aware, also, that black women from the Congo invented mathematics before it passed from there to the ancient Egyptians and ancient Greeks. Just the tip of the iceberg. Her ancestors just re-emerged in, and expressed themselves through, her. In a sense her ancestors reached out from the past and touched/made contact with her. All she did was unknowingly rediscover her natural genius.

Just once I'd like these people who recap movies to actually know what the hell they're talking about. On the whole they got this right but her coworker didn't treat her poorly like your portraying. the document he threw on her desk was redacted, meaning parts of it were blacked out so that she couldn't see them, because she didn't have a high enough security clearance. Oh and by the way could you keep the story to the actual story and the historical facts behind it rather than pushing an agenda? that would be awesome thanks!! I wish they would teach things like the story of this lady's brilliance and genius but yet it was.....overlooked. it's like our history isn't actually being taught to us anymore and it's extremely frustrating.

@Linda Roane watching it I didn't take it that way but then again everything is open to personal interpretation. Having said that? if the lady the story is about says it went a certain way? I can't argue with that. You find so many of these reviews in particular on TRpost that are just so so far off base. I stand corrected and it's good to see that someone actually did watch the movie. Cheers!

Solo: Everything that is shown in this video, is actually from the movie. This is summarized very well. Kathryn Johnson was interviewed on tv, and she cleared up a lot of the fictitious parts of the movie. She said she did not run half a mile to use the restroom, but used the one closer to her desk.

This isn't sports, where you review the game and add your two cents. "I'm gonna explain this movie... because you are dumb, and I'm the only one who gets it." Why is it that, when they make any movie... IT'S NEVER NARRATED with an EXPLANATION? Why is that? When you left the theater... was there someone in the lobby, asking.. "Did you get it? Was it too hard to understand?" Don't you think that anyone can watch this movie, and understand it, on their own? I could understand if the dialog was cryptic, with never-ending plot holes, and vague storylines. Having said that... can't you give your audience just a little credit... at least for knowing how to use a computer, a smartphone? And how can you be certain that YOU actually understood it?

Ozymandias Ultor
Ozymandias Ultor Aylar önce
@James Rivers Who brought it? It was always there, you think the whole of Africa was free of racism? Racism in one form or another, on one level or another always existed. And it seems you connect racism with slavery right away... I am of Slavic origin... do you know the etymology of the word "slave" in the English language? It comes from Slav, Slava means "glory" in all Slavic languages, but obviously, Slavs were subjected to so much enslavement that it became the root of the word "slave". And you will not find too many whiter people than Slavic... And again, who brought racism? Sure, many white people were racists, but so were Arabs, do you know what was Mohamed trading with and how he called black people? I can't write it because of the algorithm but connect the words "raisin" and "heads"... What do you think, who was talking slaves in Africa, white people were going or other black people or above mentioned with his tribe did that dirty business for 14 centuries? Besides, no one had to bring it, in Africa the diversity is very big, and racism already existed. You have a very simplified picture in your head, and just simply repeating that mantra about how others are racists and some are not, well that is simply not true. there is white racism, but there is black racism too, and black people were taking other black people as slaves and selling them. Things are never simply black and white. Things are mostly grey nuances.

You sees it’s all about one fact. Regardless of race. She scared the shit out the ole boy school of thought cause she was smarter and quicker in getting the answer. Myself I could care less what color you are or ain’t . Gettin the answers right and on time. Means I get to the house quicker to drink a few cold beers and play with momma..

It's not about her being qualified enough, she didn't have the clearance. Meaning that the people at NASA don't trust her. She has the qualifications to be in there, she just cannot be trusted to go in there. At least be accurate with the recaps.

They added that part to have a "nice white person" in the movie. It happens all of the time in Hollywood.

The movie uses this to show what has happened. In fact the bathroom experience was Mary Jackson's experience. As the story is told most from Kathleen perspective, it falls onto her story line to demonstrate much of the implicit and explicit biases that were being faced by black women

It must be one of the most generic Hollywood films i've heard of in quite a while. This film is basically another benchmark for the political correctness movement. nothing more than a quota for the triple A "film industry". For them, it's something to fill in the blank spots in the pursue for the public agenda.

I guess you didn't enjoy the movie or the story behind it. Can you please explain to me what the heck is political correctness? Just think she will be remembered for her service to the U.S. space program on behalf of a grateful nation.

Don't take this question the way it sounds. Hollywood has a nasty habit of distorting a few facts in order to sell a movie. So I'm kind of hoping everything went the way with John Glenn's FlightIt did in the movieBehind the scenes

Awesome,I have worked aside many of genius black women and men under who talents. go unused because of the color of their skin. The good news is that many are forced to work in predominantly black colleges where students like myself have gotten the benefits of their genius. The actual Catherine Johnson wasn't noticably black, so may have been around an eighth Sub-Saharan black at best. She was one of hundreds of NASA "computers" who performed the same tasks. She did not stand out or lead anything. This movie ridiculously exaggerates her importance in the space program. People like Jack Crenshaw, Wernher von Braun and his cohorts played a far greater role. Without CJ, we would still have gone to the moon by July 1969 just the same. This movie is propaganda that sadly people - especially young people are believing.

The problem with reincarnation, you have no memory of the previous life. In fact you may choose to come back as a "mentality challenged" person to temper the souls development.

Building wealth involves developing good habits like regularly putting money away in intervals for solid investments. Financial management is a crucial topic that most tend to shy away from, and ends up haunting them in the near future. Putting our time and effort in activities and investments that will yield a profitable return in the future is what we should be aiming for. Success depends on the actions or steps you take to achieve it. "You're not going to remember those expensive shoes you bought ten years ago, but you will remember every single morning when you look at your bank account that extra 0 in there. I promise, that's going to be way more fun to look at everyday", I pray that anyone who reads this will be successful in life

Those days are long gone unfortunately a couple of greedy self centered generations sold the lives of there bloodlines. To make money today comes a the price of your soul. The world is corrupt and evil and its really dog eat dog but enjoy all that money you squirreled away all while believing everything the media and movies told you believe all while it was chopped up and sold off to global powers that bought your blindness for a few bucks.

I totally disagree. Black people could've had generational wealth if their independent, succesful, and classy neighborhoods which were self sufficient with because of their entrepreneurship in their own community. Leave to white supremacists to come up with fake crimes just to destroy the black neighborhoods. Here the were working hard and succeeding but law enforcement and the poor white trash wasn't going to stand for that. Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Black Wall Street in the Black section of Georgetown in DC, and so many other unmentioned massacres and the destroying of black towns ruined them financially. Move forward decades later and black people were being left out of jobs and other opportunities that would have financially move up from the "working poor" class up to middle class. But as usual the fight was difficult but it led to the Affirmative Action Act. To this very day black people are discriminated against in housing, banking, tech companies, upper management positions, promotions, health care, and many other areas. If you are never allowed (with the exception of a few) to succeed financially and are living paycheck to paycheck or in that working poor class, it is totally unrealistic to expect hard work to be the answer. Most black kids go to schools that don't offer them the equal education that white kids have because the courses that are being taught doesn't prepare them to attend college. Not only is the pay gap unequal compared to white folks, but so is everything else when it comes to financial security. Non black immigrant who came to this country for a better life and to live the American dream, I don't want to hear anything from you because you weren't involuntarily brought and bought to this country. You've never been enslaved, treated as property, compared to animals, studied for the purpose of eugenics, sold and separated from your family, raped by slave masters and overseers, considered 3/5 of being human, suffered under Jim Crow, lynched or killed based on false accusations of a crime, killed for giving eye contact and not lowering you head when in the presence of white people, raised and cooked for white children while your own children lack the same attention and care from their own mothers. Immigrant men have never been sodomized in public for being "hard to control and rebellious" . Overseers sodomized (bucking) black men to shame them in front of not only their families but to serve as a warning to the other black men who forgot their place. You weren't watched while being forced to have sex for "breeding purposes" (the more slaves, the more generational wealth). Your babies weren't used for alligator bate. You weren't killed and terrorized to keep you from voting. You weren't secretly treated as guinea pigs for the purpose of the medical field could infect you and document notes on how the effects and stages of untreated syphilis. You or any of your family members were unethically and secretly using part of your DNA and genetics after you died because you discovered a scientific breakthrough. You aren't killed and abused by law enforcement nor have you suffered traumatic life events that effects your health and lowers your life span for have to deal with white supremacy and systemic racism from the cradle to the grave. Every example I just gave is the reason black people as a whole are in the state they're in. Over 400 years later and still the most hated race in this country and hated by non African countries world wide. You can work any harder than being a slave providing free labor that built this country and left southerners with wealth untold. By the way Sodomites community, there's no way in hell you should be protected under civil rights. Your sexuality is a damn choice whether you accept that truth or not. You aren't sexually interested in the opposite sex but biologically you are designed to procreate and your genetalia are formed to fit each other. If you're born black it's obviously noticeable but color cannot be changed no more than your gender or your age.
